Fort Everdingen with its large tower was built between 1841 and 1849. Together with Fort Honswijk, it secured access to the River Lek. This fort also defended the three inundation locks and the inundation canal near the fort. A large sluisbeer was built in the Lek Dike in front of the fort. This refers to a dam containing a lock to let river water flow in for the inundation. The hydraulic system has been well preserved here.
